So if you know me personally, you are probably laughing that I’m writing a blog post about travel since, I don’t really enjoy traveling! I would be happy staying in San Diego 24/7 but in the last year I have actually had a lot of fun going on little adventures with my husband and kids (two boys, ages 2 and 4).
We flew to San Francisco (short flight), flew to Hawaii (longer flight), road-tripped to Las Vegas, and took a few other short beach vacations as well and let me tell you, the travel toys we brought were SO helpful!!!! I scoured the internet for advice and asked friends – we don’t use iPads and I wanted to find fun, playful toys that could be used specifically while sitting in an airplane. I found soooo many awesome ideas and am sharing them here!
My kids were happy and entertained as we traveled and while hanging out in our hotel room between outings and I’ve put together a list of our favorite items below. Plus, I’ve also included our favorite travel sleep arrangement that was a game-changer! I hope you enjoy 🙂
14 Favorite Travel Toys for Little Kids
The key to these travel toys being a big hit was, surprising the kids with them the day of travel! The novelty alone was exciting for them 🙂 I put the airplane toys in their back packs that they got to carry with them (and then I stuffed some of the bigger ones in my bag to bring out mid-flight lol). Bonus: Travel Sleep Favorites!
It was super easy when the kids were little to stay a hotel – I would ask the front desk to please send up two cribs and that was that! Now that they are in toddler beds, I wasn’t sure what to do – I was worried that they would either accidentally fall out of a big bed (if we got a hotel room with two queen beds for example) or just stay up all night wrestling if they had to share.
I found an AWESOME solution that my husband thought was absolutely ridiculous….until I set the portable beds up in our hotel room and he saw the amazingness himself. The boys LOVED their travel beds and these come with us to hotels, grandma and grandpa’s house, etc.! First, I inflate their mattresses, then I unroll the nap mats on top of them and tada – comfy bed, pillow and blanket ready to go 🙂
